ABSTRACT

This article discusses about the design and deployment of a smart robotic system on university campuses for monitoring the indoor environment, health protocols, and sanitation. The designed VEX autonomous robotic system performed the following tasks: (a) moving around the university classrooms and scanning the body temperature of students and staff, as well as tracking environmental parameters in classrooms;(b) executing sanitation function by disinfecting objects in classrooms;and (c) performing security function by sending an alert signal to health and safety officer if a student or staff with fever enters the classroom, or if staff or student is not wearing face mask indoors. Particle Photon microcontrollers linked to sensors and actuators were used to detect and manage indoor environmental conditions as well as track individuals' body temperatures from a distance, with the data being stored in the ThingSpeak and Particle cloud platforms and displayed on smartphone apps. Transfer learning through MIT App Inventor's Personal Image Classifier was used to detect health protocol violations with 93.33% accuracy. The maximum distance traversed by the robot prototype was 38 meters, with an average time of 220 seconds and an average speed of 0.17 meters per second. The robot had an 88.89% success rate in following the black-lined course. This intelligent robotic system can limit staff and student exposure to infectious diseases and implement "new normal"health and safety practices on campus as post-COVID-19 precautions. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Over the years, the robotic industry has made significant growth in the manufacturing sector due to the need for collaborative and interactive robots. But it is not the case for service sectors, especially in the healthcare sector. A lack of emphasis is given to healthcare which has led to new opportunities for developing assistive robots which can aid patients with disabilities and illnesses. Furthermore, COVID-19 has acted as a catalyst for the development of assistive robots in the healthcare sector in an attempt to overcome the difficulties faced due to viruses and bacteria. This paper demonstrates the simulation of a multi-purpose medical assistive robot using ROS(Robot Operating System). This intelligent robot is successfully simulated and visualized in the ROS environment. To achieve real-Time autonomous motion Google Cartographer SLAM(Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) is used to generate real-Time maps of unknown environments. It usually focuses on how these robots can provide assistance to health workers, customers, and organizations in different sectors of the healthcare environment. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Businesses are very cautious about their supply chain. Any delay or disruption may lead to unimaginable loss. The COVID-19 scenario has taken this concern to an epic hyper. Businesses could not meet their customer's needs due to the lack of Human Resource during the prolonged lockdown. Companies had to either downsize or shut down. Businesses started searching for means to operate their processes with as low resources as possible. Thus, many started adopting Robotic Process Automation though it is still evolving. There are many literatures that discuss the implementation of RPA in varied streams like accounting, finance, HR, and others. Yet there is a very limited study that has focused on RPA implementation in supply chain processes. The proposed chapter showers light on the adoption of RPA in the varied stages of supply chain. A complete real-time automation use case on invoice processing is also discussed. This chapter aims to help researchers, RPA enthusiasts, and entrepreneurs to realize the time, effort, and economic benefits of implementing RPA. Thus, encouraging them to adopt RPA in their supply chain processes. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

As the world faces a COVID epidemic, one of the most critical rules to observe is social separation. There are some situations where social separation is difficult to maintain, such as canteens. The proposed technology equips a college canteen with an autonomous food serving robot, allowing us to preserve social distance. People in canteens confront challenges such as long lines and food service delays. When it comes to college canteens, students only have a limited amount of time for refreshment, resulting in a rush at the canteen. Our self-serving food robot will serve the food to the clients without fail;all they have to do is order meals using the mobile app. The system relies on a mobile application to place orders and a robot to deliver the food. Users will be able to summon the robot using the help button in the mobile app, which will result in canteen trash management. For routing and finding the best way to the table, we employ a combination of sensors and Radio Frequency Identifier (RFID) technology. Our solution will benefit the admin in addition to keeping the customers happy. Making a robot will be less expensive than hiring a human waiter. The system not only has a rechargeable wallet payment interface, but also net banking, card payment, and UPI payment possibilities. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

As chatbots become more advanced and popular, marketing research has paid enormous attention to the antecedents of consumer adoption of chatbots. This has become increasingly relevant because chatbots can help mitigate the fear and loneliness caused by the global pandemic. Therefore, unlike previous work that focused on design factors, we theorize that social presence serves a mediating role between consumer motivations (i.e., hedonic and utilitarian) and intention to use a chatbot service based on self-determination theory. Our results from a structural equation model (n = 377) indicate that hedonic (but not utilitarian) motivation significantly affects chatbots' social presence, ultimately influencing intention to use the chatbot service. We also found that fear of COVID-19 amplifies the effect of social presence on intention to use the chatbot service. In this dynamic, we found an additional moderated moderation effect of generational cohorts (i.e., baby boomers and Generations X, Y, and Z) in experiencing different levels of fear of COVID-19. Overall, our findings emphasize the importance of motivation-matching features for consumer adoption of chatbot services. Our findings also indicate that marketers may utilize the fear element to increase adoption of chatbot services, especially when targeting the young generations (e.g., Generation Z). © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

ABSTRACT

One of the main impacts of technologies in the tourism sector is traveler empowerment. Technology has allowed travelers to be a lot more informed and to take a proactive role in organizing their own trip. Now, tourists are much more demanding, have several options to choose, and have more bargaining power. Tourist has also become not just a mere visitor, but a content generator sharing their experience with other travelers. This research intends to identify the adoption of technologies in the hotel and restaurant sector and secondly to identify smart technologies that can help to eradicate the virus and normalize the hospitality business. The research question is: How COVID-19 could be a trigger for the adoption of new technologies in the hospitality sector? The objectives are: (i) to identify new technologies already adopted in the hotel and restaurant areas, (ii) to pinpoint how new technologies could help in health and cleanness protocols, and (iii) to categorize changes in operational areas after the consecutive lockdowns. To achieve these goals, several case studies were collected to show and explain best practices for the future. The results are expected to help identify outcomes to build a survey to apply to hospitality professionals. Also, those outcomes will be useful in improving professionals' tools, resources, and procedures to help to eradicate the COVID-19 virus. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

In the Covid-19 epidemic, the automated guided vehicles (AGVs) could be use in material handling which prevent interpersonal contact and be a factor in reducing the epidemic. As the consequence of the labor shortage, the recruitment of labor on material handling tends to be scarce and the labor cost is also higher. Therefore, the solution is to use AGVs in the material handling in the production line. The benefit of reducing the human labor is the ability to reduce the cycle time and human error in the operation. However, at present, the cost of the AGVs from the manufacturer or the dealer is high. This paper introduces the development process of an automatic transport vehicle by using Mecanum wheels which can carry payload up to 20 kg. The hardware and software of material handling vehicle was designed such as the material of the structure, sensors, electrical circuit, controller, and computer algorithm. The autonomous material handling vehicle was tested in the transportation of small parts in factories within limited workspaces where conventional wheeled vehicles cannot operate. The RP-LiDAR S1 was used to acquire main sensing signal to find the appropriate escape route. The experimental results showed that the intelligent nagavative system enhance the ability of obstacle avoidance to the material handling vehicles in the real situation in the transportation of small parts in a factory. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Technology plays a vital role in our lives to meet basic hygiene necessities. Currently, the whole world is facing an epidemic situation and the practice of using sanitizers is common nowadays. Sanitizers are used by people to sanitize their hands and bodies. It is also used for sanitizing objects that come into contact with the machine. While sanitizing a small area, people manage to sanitize via pumps, but it becomes difficult to sanitize the same area every day. One of the most severe sanitation concerns is a simple, economic and efficient method to adequately clean the indoor and outdoor environments. In particular, effective sanitization is required for people working in a clinical environment. Recently, some commonly used sanitizer techniques include electric sanitizer spray guns, electric sanitizer disinfectants, etc. However, these sanitizers are not automated, which means a person is required to roam personally with the device to every place to spray the disinfectant or sanitize an area. Therefore, a novel, cost-effective automatic sanitizing machine (ASM) named ASMBoT is designed that can dispense the sanitizer effectively by solving the aforementioned problems. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

With the Covid-19 raging around the world, economic and social problems are facing a considerable impact. Many patients who have undertaken rehabilitation treatment in hospitals must be forced to rehabilitate at home. To solve the problems, this paper presents a rehabilitation assistance system combining artificial intelligence and humanoid robots. First, the humanoid robot can play the role of a physical therapist, demonstrating rehabilitation movements and leading patients to rehabilitate. Second, OpenPose model is used to track the human skeleton during rehabilitation. Finally, we compare with the pre-set standard actions, calculate their similarity, and then convert them into quantitative scores for subsequent recording and tracking. The proposed method is verified on the COCO 2017 dataset and self-collected LSVT dataset, and achieves an average precision of 85.5% for skeleton detection. Experiment results from 9 subjects show that the more the non-standard actions are, the lower the score is. This proved that the presented work can provide an effective monitoring method for home rehabilitation. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

When the infectious coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 broke out it resulted in a global crisis. In the fight of Covid-19, China’s government relied on its strength to apply new technologies, i.e. for controlling and containment of the virus by tracing and tracking Chinese citizens. Relying on the trajectory of industrialisation, China has pursued a path of innovation. While it is reasoned that China’s advantage might have origin in the experience of the SARS outbreak almost two decades ago, this article argues that mainly China’s innovation- driven climate has favoured the application of new technologies in combatting the current crisis. Based on the innovation-driven trajectory this article explores China’s pathway out the corona crisis and how this might strengthen China’s role in global health governance. In order to pursue this aim, this article explores several areas, in which the next generation of technologies, such as AI-based diagnostic or intelligent robots were applied and concludes with an outlook based on the formulated political agenda, strategic considerations and initial international cooperation regarding China’s impact for global health.

ABSTRACT

With continuing developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and robot technology, ethical issues related to digital humans, AI avatars, intelligent process automation, robots, cyborgs, and autonomous vehicles are emerging, and the need for cultural and social sustainability through AI ethics is increasing. Moreover, as the use of video conferencing and metaverse platforms has increased due to COVID-19, ethics concepts and boundaries related to information and communications technology, cyber etiquette, AI ethics, and robot ethics have become more ambiguous. Because the definitions of ethics domains may be confusing due to the various types of computing platforms available, this paper attempts to classify these ethics domains according to three main platforms: computing devices, intermediary platforms, and physical computing devices. This classification provides a conceptual ethics framework that encompasses computer ethics, information ethics, cyber ethics, robot ethics, and AI ethics. Several examples are provided to clarify the boundaries between the various ethics and platforms. The results of this study can be the educational basis for the sustainability of society on ethical issues according to the development of technology. © 2022 by the author.
